Interesting talk with Sabeer Bhatia on Gloabalization 7.30 Report - 11/11/2004: Mr Hotmail talks about globalisation

At the end of the interveiw, kerry o'brien raised an interesting question on where this phenomenon of globalization of jobs going to end and the fall out, and asked how it will all look after 10 or 20 years...

Hmm.. well.. i have my own thoughts and I can think through how the world could change from 10-15 years down the line in all spheres, particularly on political and economical front... i wont be too surprised if we see the man-made boundaries of many countries disappears, nations coming together with single currencies (already we have seen European Union and EURO) and gradually we will see the world order change - one country, one law, one currency, and.... there in you will see the benefits for all of us...and i can only wish it happens sooner than we think...

Forget the India you knew for the last 50 years: It is gone. Contemplate instead a new, self-confident, resurgent nation, embracing its role as an emerging Asian superpower. From far-off Silicon Valley to home-base Bangalore, Indians are big in global software development. In tacky Tinseltown and London's effete Bloomsbury, Indian writers, film stars and directors are tops. India's core institutions, from an independent judiciary and a feisty free press to a massive, nuclear but always apolitical military, are anchored by roots more than half a century old. There is mounting support for India to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. The country's scientists plan to launch a moon probe. Then there is the brightest jewel in India's crown: its firm adherence to democracy. Put all this together and the surprise is not that India is gatecrashing the elite superpower league, but that it has not happened earlier. Now in 2002, those who ignore India's rise do so at their own perilAkhand Bharat

IBM announced this week that it had acquired Daksh eServices, India's third-largest business outsourcing firm. The announcement will heat up the debate about offshore outsourcing.

Many global service providers like IBM are pursuing global delivery strategies. This acquisition represents another important milestone in establishing the validity and continued momentum of the global delivery model for bringing IT services to U.S. customers from offshore locations. This deal also reinforces the significance of the IT spending shift because mega-providers like IBM have the influence in the supply chain and the client base to change the overall market structure.

Insurance, telecom, IT to generate jobs: Study

BS Corporate Bureau in New Delhi | January 01, 2004 16:46 IST

The telecommunications and insurance sectors will provide a lot of career opportunities for fresh graduates in the future, according to a recent study by Elixir Web Solutions.

The telecom sector, which is seeing 70 per cent growth now, is expected to touch 80 percent in the near future.

"The insurance sector also holds a lot of potential with the market expected to hit the $25-billion mark by 2010. This industry will generate 500,000 jobs in the next five years. The opening of the insurance sector to private players has resulted in the creation of new positions like those of surveyors, claims processors, agents, underwriters and actuaries," Prashant Sachdeva, business analyst, Elixir Web Solutions, said.

The information technology-enabled services industry will also provide new avenues for youngsters, the report says. According to the National Association of Software and Services Companies, 65,000 new ITES jobs happened in January-June 2003 and this growth is likely to continue. The sector will employ 225,000 people six months from now.

Another estimate by Frost & Sullivan reveals that the call centre services market will grow from a $237.7 million in 2002 to $753.7 million in 2008.

For fresh graduates there also are several new career opportunities like auto finance, telecom management, foreign languages (teachers, interpreters and translators), actuarial services, materials management, communications management, brand management, technical writing and mutual fund marketing.
